*If the last few days were indicative of what is to come, then the Chris Paul Family Foundation (formerly the Chris Paul Foundation) is on track to making a difference in the lives of both children and teens in the Los Angeles inner city.
While Jada Paul headed up a prom dress giveaway for young ladies on Saturday March 28th at the JW Marriott LA Live, her All star point guard husband Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers, finished it up on Monday, with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Watts Willowbrook Boys and Girls Club.
Jada Paul’s Prom Dress giveaway, in its fourth year in Los Angeles, originated in the Paul’s hometown of Winston-Salem. Included in the festivities was a runway fashion show with the Spirit girls and a lot of inspiration from Jada, celebrity fitness trainer Jeanette Jenkins and others.
Jada Paul said:
“Princesses for a day…is what these girls are.”
The girls, arriving with their moms and brimming with excitement, came from different community programs and centers across the city. They needed no motivation to get into the shop till you drop mode. Each girl, able to pick the evening dress of her choice along with shoes, jewelry, handbags, and hair and make up products, was also given a skin and makeup consultation. With much ‘shopping’ to do each was on a mission to find the perfect prom outfit.
Donations from BCBG Maxeria, Windsor Fashions, Jane’s Cosmetics were abundant. Each young lady was guaranteed a full ensemble, and if by chance she wasn’t able to find a dress of her liking that day, not to worry, The Chris Paul Family Foundation planned to go the distance to insure that each young lady would wear a dress to the prom that she absolutely loved.
One young lady said:
“Thank you very much I appreciate all the help I’m getting. If it wasn’t for the foundation I wouldn’t have a dress right now, I feel really blessed”
Colin Welch, the in house stylist for BCBG, just one of the vendors that donated dresses showed up to assist. He said:
“Getting to help the girls find their prom dresses and have that moment of excitement, joy, and beauty, was just so fun to get to see!”
A a few days later the love was still flowing at the ribbon ceremony for the renovated Watts Willowbrook Girls and Boys club.
Chris Paul told the attendees:
“There’s so many different things that we take for granted, think about like computers and tablets and iPads and stuff like that, and, you know, they didn’t even have Wi-Fi in here,” Paul said.
With his family in tow, the newly named Chris Paul Family Foundation is doing big things, including, providing a safe haven for kids amongst a community laden with gangs, drugs and violence. With the renovation came much needed new equipment, wifi and computers. Books and learning tools as well.
Chris Paul told the kids:
“I want you guys to enjoy this, but most of all I want you guys to take care of it. O.K., O.k.?”
Amid the happy nods and assurances from the kids in the audience. He continued:
I want you guys to use this as a learning center, and education cells, and most of all enjoy it, And when you get a chance, not to me, but to some of these other people around everyday that are always here with you on a daily basis, can you do me one favor, one favor, tell them thank you! Day in and out they take care of you and keep you safe and I know without a doubt that they love you, thank you guys so much for being here, thank you!”
