*One of the great things about most films is that when they come out on home video, it’s not unheard of for the release to contain deleted scenes.
That’s the situation with Ava DuVernay’s “Selma” and actor/rapper Common in particular. There’s one super intense scene between Common and David Oyelowo.
In the midst of deadly Selma, Alabama voting protests, tensions come to a boil as James Bevel (Common) disagrees with Martin Luther King Jr.’s (David Oyelowo) tactics.
“You’re too soft,” Bevel says in the scene.
However, the tension is quickly defused as they come across Cager Lee (Henry G. Sanders), the grief-stricken grandfather of one of the slain civil rights protesters.
After an emotional discussion with Lee, the scene ends with King coming to tears.
We’re glad to see this scene as part of the DVD because it better displays Common’s acting chops.
“Selma” debuts on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand on May 5, 2015, via Paramount Home Media Distribution.
