*Giuliana Rancic is finally talking about the aftermath of her Fashion Police dust-up over Zendaya’s hair, saying she received death threats, and that the on-set turmoil that followed was inevitable.

After Rancic’s comment that Zendaya’s dreadlocs made her appear that she smelled of patchouli oil and weed, reaction seemed to snowball a rippling effect for the show. Kelly Osbourne quit, followed by Kathy Griffin and the producers then announced a hiatus until the fall.

“[The show] without Joan [Rivers, who died in September] was difficult from episode one,” Rancic told People. “There were just all sorts of problems. I really believe it was only a matter of time before that specific show with that cast and that format fell apart.”

She also said of the Zendaya joke that it was taken out of context and not about race at all.

“There were about 50 sets of eyeballs on set that day and not one person thought that it had the undertones that it ended up having once it aired because they heard it in context,” she said.

While delivering the joke, she “made peace signs and I said boho twice,” but it was edited out. She said the joke was about the “hippie culture.”

She also said she was “shocked” when she saw Zendaya’s reaction and equally shocked when she started getting death threats from viewers.

“I started very quickly getting death threats. People were sending me pictures of the barrel of a gun saying, ‘I’m going to kill your family,’” she revealed.
