*The New England Patriots’ SpyGate scandal may be in the past, but the team’s coach got a refresher on it from John Legend.
According to the New York Daily News, it was the singer’s wife Chrissy Teigen, not the signals of a rival football team, which caught Bill Belichick’s attention eight years after the infamous situation.
In a picture taken at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night (April 25), a red-carpet photographer captured Belichick staring at Teigen from behind “at just the right moment.” Needless to say, the picture spread quickly online as it ultimately reached Legend, who chose to kid around a bit on social media at Belichick’s expense.
“SpyGate,” tweeted the entertainer, who posted a link to the picture of the coach checking out his wife along with the comment.
Legend’s fun response comes years after the NFL disciplined Patriots for videotaping signals made by New York Jets defensive coaches during a game between the teams on September 9, 2007. Belichick was ultimately fined $500,000 by the league for his role in the incident following an investigation, while the Patriots received a $250,000 fine and was docked their original first-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
Belichick’s fine is noted for being the maximum allowed by the NFL as well as the largest fine ever imposed on a coach in the 87-year history of the league.
Oh yeah, if you’re wondering where was Linda Holliday, Belichick’s longtime girlfriend, she accompanied the coach to the dinner, and if you think she had a problem with dude’s wandering eye, you’re wrong.
“I mean, honestly, who didn’t check her out in this photo?!? I think I even looked! #PrettyLady @johnlegend“
