*It’s been six years since our favorite mall cop rolled in on a Segway!
Today EUR is on the scene with comic and co-host Loni Love chatting about her family friendly sequel, ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2‘ and advice from an icon.
EUR: There are several comedians in “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2,” was it hard to maintain your composure?
Loni Love: One of the harder scenes was when we had to actually be serious. Kevin James (Paul Blart) is doing a move right before the fight scene, we are all standing behind him and he’s making a speech and then he gets on his tippy toes! I almost lose character. There are so many funny scenes. One with a horse and one where Paul Blart knocks out a housekeeper. He uses marbles to fight…who does that?!
EUR: What can you tell us about your character Donna Ericone?
Loni Love: She’s a mall cop from Mall of America and fights the bad guys. The film also has a message about family. Paul’s daughter is growing up and she has to make some decisions…he has to make some decisions…and we’re all in Vegas and things just happen. It’s hilarity!
EUR: What was it like working with Kevin James?
Loni Love: What I liked about working with Kevin is that he allowed us to improvise. We would do a scene how it was written and then afterwards he’d say, ‘ok, let’s have a little fun!’ It was good because there were so many standups and we all like giving our suggestions. You felt like you were part of the movie because you helped create it.
EUR: Some of your influences are Joan Rivers and Richard Pryor. How did they influence you in this film?
Loni Love: One time Joan told me, ‘never turn down anything, at least try it.’ When you get a script and it says you have a fight scene or you’re going to be on top of the Wynn Building, you may get scared. But then I remembered what she told me and I’m glad I did because now look at me.
EUR: Do you like going to the mall?
Loni Love: I love the mall so that’s why I didn’t have any problem playing a mall cop, cause I go there all the time so my research was real easy. I love shopping, especially window shopping. I don’t like spending a lot of money but I like window shopping so it’s not hard for me.
Catch Paul Blart riding again in theaters on April 17.
