*Mariah Carey is about to make her return to the big screen.

Deadline.com is reporting that the singer is part of an untitled Christmas movie that New Line just bought via a pitch from Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment, writers David Diamond and David Weissman, and producer Jon Shestack.

Carey is due to play a major role in the film, which came about when she brought an idea to Ratner for a movie about Christmas.

The plot is being kept under wraps, but according to Deadline, the theme will illustrate how music has the power to transport you back to your truest and most authentic feelings. The plan is to feature songs from various artists in addition to songs by Carey.

It’s a reconnect for the writers with Ratner; they collaborated on the 2000 Ratner-directed hit “The Family Man,” which starred Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni.

Shestack will produce with Ratner, and James Packer and John Cheng of RatPac Entertainment will executive produce. Toby Emmerich and Walter Hamada will oversee for New Line Cinema.

This will be Carey’s first big screen appearance since “The Butler” in 2013.
