Alabama Grandma Ran 9-Year-Old Grand-Daughter to Death; Gets Life

*Sometimes you have to wonder what it is that drives cruelty, and why it is that a jury tends to be more lenient on one horrendous crime than another.

Moreover, you have to ask yourself, can mental illness be a plausible defense for every one who commits these crimes? Is there a cut off from this defense at some point…and when is it?

This story might leave you with more questions than answers; with the first one being, what could a 9-year-old child POSSIBLY have done to make her grandmother — one who by mere status alone is expected to have more patience than the parent– so angry that she would cause her death? And why would that same grandmother choose a punishment so incredibly harsh and cruel such as forcing the child to RUN for three hours straight–while carrying firewood– until the child collapses?

And this one might really cause you to cringe…what prompted the judge and jury to not have this criminal executed (just a question, not necessarily my belief system) and instead, sentence her to life in prison without the possibility of parole?
