*The man that appeared on “Catfish” last year as “Kidd Cole” has just been charged in Washington D.C. with calling in fake threats against Metro stations, buses and trains.
Metro Transit Police say in a news release that Jerez Nehemiah Stone-Coleman was arrested Wednesday at his Southeast Washington home.
In the complaint, investigators say Stone-Coleman called 911 to report threats 11 times since December, but each threat turned out to be false. Investigators say the threats ranged from reports of a bomb planted at a Metro station to threats against President Obama.
Metro Transit Police say detectives used cell phone records, surveillance video from stations and buses and telephone audio to identify Stone-Coleman.
In an episode of MTV’s “Catfish” that aired almost exactly a year ago on May 28, 2014, a limo driver named Lucille asked hosts Nev and Max to help her make sense of “Kidd Cole,” who claimed to be a hip hop producer signed to Kanye West’s record label, G.O.O.D. Music.
Kidd Cole managed to convince Lucille to start booking him shows and events in the DMV, leading her to believe that she was working under G.O.O.D. Music and would be offered a job at the label if she was able to prove her worth to Kidd Cole. Lucille used her own money to set up his events and performances, but never saw a return, racked up a huge bill, and never received a job offer from G.O.O.D. Music.
At one point in the episode, Kidd Cole hilariously tried to fake his way through a bogus recording session in an attempt to convince Nev and Max that he was legit (see video below).
During the part of the show where the Catfisher explains his or her troubled past, Stone-Coleman opened up about his time living in a shelter and his feelings of being put down by people who didn’t believe in him; but in the show’s epilogue, he was said to still be scamming folks.
