*Add Denver Water to Jay Z’s 99 problems.
A spokesperson for the Colorado utility service called Jigga out for his comments on the price of water while trying to make a point about his streaming music service Tidal.
“The challenge is to get everyone to respect music again, to recognize its value,” Jay Z said. “Water is free. Music is $6 but no one wants to pay for music.”
Although Jay Z made this comment in March, it just now got to the folks at Denver Water, whose rep Steve Snyder fired off an open letter informing Hov that water was, in fact, not free.
He said Denver Water customers pay $3 for 1,000 gallons and that “when you think about how much a gallon of milk or a liter of soda costs, water is a pretty good value.”
Using Jay’s own music as an example, Snyder wrote: “Your last album, ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail,’ sold 528,000 copies. At $6 each, that’s more than $3 million. You could buy 1 billion gallons of water for that.”

The response to Jay Z is likely part of Denver Water’s marketing arm, which has impressed local citizens with its clever billboards around the city.
