*Inglewood, CA  – After taking a break from promoting the movie Brotherly Love, award-wi nning actress and singer Keke Palmer is looking forward to partnering with P.S. Arts in order to give back t o the Los Angeles community.

P.S. ARTS collaborated with students from Warren Lane Elementary School to honor the legacy of Olympic gold-medalist, Jesse Owens. Despite experiencing racial segregation and th e perils of World War II, the son of a sharecropper went on to become a track star that defied odds at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. He became the first American track and field athlete to win four gold medals and maintained a 48-year-long record for gold medal wins. The local elementary school had the opportuni ty to create a mural showcasing their interpretation of Owens’ inspiring story. It will also serve as a daily r eminder of his motivational message, “In order to make dreams come into reality, it takes determination, dedication, self-discipline and effort.

As a Turnaround Arts partner school, Warren Lane Elementary works with local partners, such as P.S. Arts, to provide its students with community engagement opportunities that incorporate intensive arts educati on. Each Turnaround Arts school receives professional development from experts in the field and a range of resources provided by national partners to bolster student learning and build school community. This mural allowed students to connect their love for their community to a motivational cause

P.S. ARTS Teaching Artist, Tiffany Graham, led students and teachers in designing and painting the mural i nspired by the life and achievements of Jesse Owens. “I want the kids to think deeply about what it means to overcome challenges, how they can overcome the challenges in their own lives, and how they can be c hange agents in their own community!” says Ms. Graham, an artist with over two decades of experience i n community art-making. The 8’ by 8’ mural will hang on an exterior facing wall for students, families and the public to enjoy

The completed mural will be revealed, Monday, June 1st at 1:00 pm, at Warren Lane Elementary School ( 2602 W 79th St, Inglewood, CA 90305) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony including participating students a nd area officials. Keke Palmer will also serve as the key note speaker for the event
