*Khloe Kardashian is firing back at critics who apparently accused her of “trying to be black” after she posted an Instagram shot of her enjoying some Popeyes chicken on a private jet.
It all started Thursday afternoon after the NBCUniversal Cable Upfront at New York’s Javits Center, when the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” stars boarded the jet toting a humungous bag of Popeyes. Kylie Instagrammed the photo, captioning it, “that’s just how we do it.”
Once the ladies were inside the private plane, they dove into the bag. Momager Kris Jenner, makeup artist Joyce Bonelli and hairstylist Jen Atkin were part of the feast as well. Their Instagram pic was captioned, “Popeyes and PJs!!!!!!”
The pics circulated around the web and made headlines…and apparently racially-tinged comments. Khloé responded to the criticism on Twitter.
“Seeing some of the stories/comments in regards to my Instagram,” she wrote. “How is any one ‘trying to be black’ because they are eating food?”
“I wasn’t aware that food was limited to a certain skin color… I thought food was not specific to skin color but to humans in general,” she continued. “‘To break bread together,’ a phrase as old as the Bible, captures the power of a meal to forge relationships, bury anger, provoke laughter.”
Some people, however, that thought Kardashians eating Popeyes was a wink at the controversy over Kylie’s recent Snapchat video. In the short clip, she can be seen eating a biscuit and saying what she claims was misheard as “I’m high as f–k.”
Kylie set the record straight, tweeting, “I did a snapchat saying my chicken was ‘good as f–k’ eating Popeyes for the 1st time and apparently people think I said high as f–k…I DID NOT say that.”
