*Two years after the end of NBC’s “Deception,” star Meagan Good returns to primetime TV this fall in Fox’s “Minority Report,” an adaptation of the 2002 Tom Cruise film about a police “Precrime” unit that hunts down and arrests bad guys before they commit their crimes – all based on the premonitions of three hired psychics known as “precogs (precognitives).”
Fox’s version, set in Washington D.C., begins 10 years after the termination of Precrime and its three precogs – Dash, Arthur and Agatha. It’s now 2065 and crime-solving tactics have moved beyond the use of precog instincts toward more sophisticated and trusted technology.
But Dash, played by Broadway star Stark Sands (Kinky Boots) is haunted in his forced retirement by terrifying, but fragmented visions. He returns to the unit in secret to help a brash, but shrewd, police detective attempt to stop the murders that he predicts. Good plays the detective, Lara Vega.
Without giving too much away, Good says Vega has some issues of her own to work out.
“When I first read this role I totally freaked out because I thought this is a chick that is totally badass but she is vulnerable because she has been through something,” Good told us at the Fox Upfronts on Monday. “And everything she does is about justice and about the right thing. Everything about it was just incredible and got me super excited.”
Throughout the season, Vega and Dash will search for Dash’s missing twin brother, Arthur, and try to dodge others intent on exploiting the twins’ precog abilities.
Is Fox trying to make Vega and Dash the new “Crabbie (Crane and Abbie),” a.k.a. “Sleepy Hollow’s” (Nicole Beharie and Tom Mison)? Or is it just a coincidence that both pairings have African American female detectives and Caucasian partners of otherworldly origin teaming to stop criminals from wreaking havoc?
