Pres. Obama Joins Twitter: ‘They’re Finally Giving Me My Own Account’

*White House officials have used Twitter for years to communicate policy and offer occasional personal observations.

But today, President Barack Obama himself officially joined the Twitterverse.

“Hello, Twitter! It’s Barack. Really! Six years in, they’re finally giving me my own account,” read the first tweet from @POTUS.

The Obama-affiliated Organizing for Action group has an @BarackObama account that is mostly written by staff. Obama has on rare occasions used it and signaled the message was personal by signing it with his initials, BO.

But the White House assures us that @POTUS tweets are coming exclusively from the president’s fingertips. Below, his second tweet:
