*Sherri Shepherd returned to “The View” as a guest this morning and promptly made headlines with a cringe worthy joke about wanting to unload her kids on somebody else.
The actress learned a month ago that she would be held legally responsible for the child she had via surrogate with her ex-husband Lamar Sally. And during Thursday’s Hot Topics segment, she didn’t even try to hide her annoyance with the decision.
After Shepherd glowingly talked about her 10-year-old biological son Jeffrey, co-host Raven-Symoné said to the panel, “I want a baby so bad, I’ve wanted one since I was 15.”
Without missing a beat, Shepherd replied, “Girl, I got one or two you could have of mine.”
As Shepherd, 48, previously announced on her Instagram, the episode was filmed in mid-April, just two weeks after the unprecedented court case closed and Shepherd was officially declared the mother of – and therefore financially responsible for – the 9-month-old son Sally claims she planned to raise with him before having a change of heart.
Shepherd also came for Sally, 44, during her “View” return. Further addressing the contentious split in the following segment, about heeding friends’ advice, she said: “I actually feel like, if I had listened to my best friends, I wouldn’t be having … a million attorneys in my life right now.
“My best friends told me … all the stuff that I’m going through now, all the best friends who told me, ‘Sherri, don’t do this,’ … especially Whoopi Goldberg. She was one who came to my room every day and was like, ‘Here’s the red flags.’ ”
At the time, Shepherd admits she didn’t react well “when every single one of my best friends told me there were warning signs. I was like, ‘What is going on?’ I thought it was a conspiracy.”
Despite the pointed joke at the top of the hour, Shepherd noted: “The wonderful thing about best friends is, they don’t hold it against you … They welcomed me back with open arms.”
