*Kat Graham (“The Vampire Diaries”) will make her feature film debut as the role of Tammi Terrell in an upcoming biopic of the late singer, according to Deadline.

Terrell was an American recording artist, best known as a star singer for Motown Records during the 1960s, who enjoyed a string of hit duet singles with singer Marvin Gaye.

According to the Deadline:

The film follows the brief but memorable career of Terrell, who started out as a backup singer in the James Brown Revue before scoring a few minor pop hits as a solo act. But she struck gold after being paired with hitmaking singer Gaye in early 1967, a teaming that produced such Motown classics as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Your Precious Love” and “Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing.” In October 1967, Terrell collapsed onstage while performing with Gaye, and doctors diagnosed her with a brain tumor. She continued to record with Gaye and scored a few more solo hits before dying in 1970.

“I immediately connected to Tammi and her story in many ways and have felt the incredible need to tell it,” Graham said. “Tammi Terrell defined passion and soul itself. … Getting lost in the music enabled her to override life’s punishments — for when she sang, she could use the hurt to create greatness and give the world hope that maybe they could overcome their pain as well.”

Filming is set to begin next year, with Graham’s own Panthera Pictures production company producing a script penned by writer/producer/director/actress Maryam Myika.

Robert Teitel, Rose Ganguzza and Hilary Shor will also produce.

It’s refreshing and inspiring to see Black actresses play enriching – yet flawed and complex characters – be they real-life or fictitious.

Being Mary Jane” star Raven Goodwin, 22, recently spoke about her complex character Niecy Patterson, the niece of Gabrielle Union’s character Mary Jane Paul on BET’s hit drama series.

“Niecey is a complex character who is trying to get things together,” Goodwin said. “She is on a journey trying to figure out things about herself and the issues she is going through.”

The former Disney star was recently captured on video in a shocking waffle house brawl.

Raven has maintained a clean and low profile throughout her career but an altercation over a table inside a waffle house has many of her fans asking, “Really? Is it that serious?”

According to TMZ, Raven was sitting at a table waiting for friends at The Waffle House in Atlanta over the weekend, but when it appeared that the people sitting at the table next to her were about to leave, she requested to be moved there.

The people at the other table lingered, which apparently pissed off Raven. She ended up in the bathroom arguing with a woman who had been sitting at the desired table. The woman called Raven a “fat bitch,” and from there – it was on! Raven fired back by telling her she was broke and need to go make some money.

A staffer is seen on video jumping over the divider and ordering both women to leave.
