New Book! The Turner House – Set on the Eastside of Detroit

the turner house

*Incredible! Straight out the gate author Angela Flournoy debuts her first novel The Turner House (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) creating an astonishing buzz in the literary world. The story is set on the eastside of Detroit in 2008 as the housing market is plummeting, and the family is in danger of losing their home.

It’s a story about the ups and downs of family told in a fashion way beyond the years of the young author.

Flournoy’s book tour has taken her all over the place from coast to coast, and the reviews – the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Oprah Magazine and many others – are outstanding! Essence Magazine’s Patrik’s Picks says, “Flournoy does more to educate us on the housing bubble burst and its impact on everyday Americans than any business journal.”

Her fiction has appeared in The Paris Review, and she has written for The New Republic, The Los Angeles Review of Books and elsewhere. She has taught writing at the University of Iowa and Trinity Washington University. She was raised by a mother from Los Angeles and a father from Detroit.

I highly recommend this 352-page book! Pick up a copy and see what the buzz is all about!
