Jay-Williams-father-of-34-by-17-women*Call it a case of things not working out as planned.

A docu-series featuring Jay Williams – the man who fathered 34 children with 17 women – has been cancelled midway through production by the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Sources close to the show told TheGrio.com that production for the docu-series wasn’t going in the way that the network hoped it would.

The following statement, which was released by OWN, confirmed the official end of the docu-series as well as it not airing on the network:

“OWN has decided not to move forward with the Jay Williams docu-series. The series aimed to follow Jay as he worked to put his life and fractured relationships in order and to hold him accountable every step of the way. The intention was to help Jay work to establish new connections with his family, his children and the mothers of his children. Production has ended and the series will not air.”

The cancellation comes after OWN’s announcement in March that a show centering around Williams and featuring spiritual life coach Iyanla Vanzant was in the works. The network was on board with the project as a co-producer, along with Evolution Media.

“On the heels of the highly-rated and controversial Iyanla: Fix My Life multi-part mega fix featuring Atlanta resident Jay Williams who says he fathered 34 children with 17 different women, OWN follows Jay as he works to put his life and relationships in order,” read the network description of the series.
