*(Via MSN News) – President Obama insisted Friday he has not given up on the nation enacting stricter gun control laws to combat mass shootings, bringing a more forceful voice to the debate a day after the tragedy in Charleston, S.C.

In remarks at the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Obama rejected the idea that he was resigned that he had given up on legislative solutions to gun violence, as some in Washington interpreted from his remarks Thursday on the tragedy.

“Some reporters took it as resignation. I’m not resigned,” Obama said. “I have faith we will eventually do the right thing. We have to stop being confused about this. … You don’t see murder on this kind of scale, this kind of frequency in any other advanced nation on Earth.”

Obama added that: “I refuse to act as if this is the new normal or to pretend it is simply sufficient to grieve and that any mention do something to stop it is simply politicizing the problem.”
