*Not only has Regina King signed on for Season 2 of John Ridley’s ABC anthology series “American Crime,” her status has also been bumped from recurring to series regular.

King and her returning co-stars Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton will all play new characters in a new setting.

In announcing Regina’s return today, Ridley gave a thumbnail sketch of Season 2’s direction and how King’s character fits in.

“Regina is phenomenal in all regards, and is going to be at the center of a story that deals with physicality, sexuality, and societal boundaries with the same urgency as our first season dealt with race and faith,” he said, according to Deadline.com. “We’ve been blessed with the opportunity to speak on subjects as no other show does, and a cast which can do so with such a high degree of emotional honesty.”

Filming will again take place in Austin Texas, with production likely to begin in July.
