Rush Limbaugh Suffers Ratings Decline on Talk Radio (Yaaay!)

rush-limbaugh*He may still be the “face of syndicated conservative talk radio,” but according to the New York Daily News,  ratings for Rush Limbaugh’s radio talk show are on the decline.

Limbaugh’s ratings situation was touted by Salon.com, which voiced its reaction in a story with the headline: “Rush Limbaugh’s downward spiral continues: Another demotion, another step toward irrelevancy.”

In the story, Salon mentioned how Limbaugh was forced to make a move down the radio dial after his host station in Boston dumped him. Nevertheless, the conservative talk radio show host’s show can still be found on the radio in Boston on AM. As a result, the Salon reports the show “currently boasts a 0.6 rating” as it “trails four non-commercial stations in the market, and becomes yet another big-city, cellar-dwelling outpost that Limbaugh is forced to call home.”

The sagging ratings could ultimately affect Limbaugh’s next contract as the Daily News revealed that “the ratings for syndicated conservative talk have flattened or dropped for several years, despite the gift of a Democratic President to hammer, and some think the format is wearing down.”

As for what’s behind the ratings drop, former talk host, media blogger and self-described Republican Daryl Parks believes Limbaugh’s schtick is getting old with listeners,

“Today’s talk radio is fast fading into the sunset because of a format stuck with 1990s rhetoric,” he told the Daily News. “A constant right-wing political drumbeat no longer resonates.”

The publication goes on to offer another factor with acknowledging that Limbaugh “lost many advertisers after the Sandra Fluke birth control controversy in 2012, and that could affect what his syndicator, Premiere, will offer when his eight-year, $50 million a year deal expires in 2016.”
