Starz Inks Overall Deal With ‘Power’ Creator Courtney Kemp Agboh

*Starz has locked down Courtney Kemp Agboh, the creator and executive producer of its record breaking series “Power.”

Less than one week after the Season 2 premiere set weekend Live+SD viewership highs, the cable channel has signed her to an exclusive overall deal. The pact calls for her to also continue serving in her current role.

“I am excited and proud to continue my work with Starz. They have been great creative partners in the development and growth of ‘Power,’ and I hope to nurture our relationship through the life of this series and beyond,” said Kemp Agboh.

Kemp Agboh started her career in the magazine world, publishing articles in GQ, Vibe and Marie Claire. She then left New York to pursue a career in television writing for “The Bernie Mac Show” (Fox), “Eli Stone” (ABC), and “The Good Wife” (CBS), for which she received an Emmy nomination.

Regarding “Power,” Kemp Agboh says it was important that the show be as authentic as possible to its setting in New York’s club scene and brutal drug trade – while also carrying themes that are universal.

Below, she reveals the challenge of reflecting that underworld authenticity, considering she is from suburban Connecticut and had a decidedly non-urban upbringing:

As previously reported, “Power” has been greenlit for a 10-episode third season.
