*A Black woman’s hair, truly it is the 8th wonder of the world for many, as “Mad Men” actress Teyonah Parris discovered recently when some old strange white dude approached her and got intimate with her hair … without her permission. Not only did she check the fool, she publicly shared the shocking ordeal via her Twitter account.
Based on this spread she did for Bright Ideas magazine last year, there’s no denying that Teyonah has an amazing mane, and if she rocked her halo of curls in a full-blown Afro or fro-hawk on the day of the incident, well then, we understand why the weirdo White dude was momentary glamoured by her, doesn’t give him the right to touch her, though.
In her interview with Bright Ideas, Teyonah opened up about her days wearing weaves and her journey to becoming natural. She said:
“It wasn’t just changing my hairstyle for me. It was letting go of a lot of stigmas that I didn’t even realize I held. It’s an emotional and spiritual journey, of letting go of these images that you are told are the standard of beauty and starting to accept who we are and how god made us—and standing and living in that beauty.”
Parris was reminded on Monday just how magnetic natural beauty can be. While dining out with friends, she said an “old man” approached her and grabbed her hair. Here’s a recount of what Parris said happened:
Having tea at The Ritz w/beautiful brown folk. Old Man walks over boldly asks me “Is that yours or an add on?!”Clearly referring tomy hair.
