Anthony Davis Turned Down ‘DWTS’ Because, ‘I Can’t Dance’

Anthony Davis

*Perhaps just as known for his infamous unibrow as he is for his All-star moves on the court, Anthony Davis is one of the cover athletes for the upcoming NBA 2K16 and he just signed a five-year, $143 million extension with the New Orleans Pelicans.

He’s probably still years away from hitting his peak, and he’s not quite a household name yet, like LeBron James. Still, ABC was looking to boost his crossover appeal with an invitation to appear on “Dancing with the Stars,” but Davis told TMZ Sports that he turned it down.

TMZ caught up with Davis at the Viceroy Hotel in Anguilla, where the 6-foot-10 shining star was staying while hosting the Anguilla Youth Sports Foundation Basketball Camp. The reporter asked Davis and Sacramento Kings guard Ben McLemore for their takes on Donald Trump, Magic Johnson and reality shows like “Celebrity Apprentice.” Davis told the reporter that he turned down an opportunity to appear on “Dancing With the Stars,” because he can’t dance and didn’t want to embarrass himself.

“I’ve seen a couple of players on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ or just athletes, not even NBA players,” Davis said. “I actually got asked to do it, but I can’t dance, so I don’t want to embarrass myself … No, I can’t dance. I would never want to do nothing to embarrass myself. But sometimes, I’ll do something just to have fun.”

Anthony wouldn’t have been the first NBA player to appear on the show. As NBC Sports reports, Metta World Peace was a cast member in 2011, when he was on the Lakers, and Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler appeared in 2007. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has also been on the show.

Davis also spoke to the reporter about the types of investments that intrigue him and his plans to take in millions after his b-ball playing days are over. You can peep the video here.
