*Because Hollywood loves dressing Black men in drag, Deion Sanders is the latest to don a blonde wig and a fair maiden dress to amuse the masses. Let’s all join hands and collectively sigh.
The former Dallas Cowboys went head-to-head against pop star Justin Bieber on Thursday’s “Lip Sync Battle” on Spike. Each contestant was able to perform two songs of their choosing.
Sanders performed a rendition of Madonna’s 1984 hit “Like a Virgin” and even recreated her iconic performance of the song at that year’s MTV Video Music Awards. He also rocked out to “Play that Funky Music” by Wild Cherry while Bieber chose “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie and “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne.
Spoiler! Of course the goofy Black man in a dress always wins. Sanders beat Bieber in the battle, losing only a tad of his dignity. Or maybe not. Check out the clip below.
Sanders, who founded youth organization TRUTH Sports to fight poverty, recently spoke on a panel in which he praised the authenticity of Republican Rep. Paul Ryan’s efforts to fight poverty.
“There’s a lot of people trick or treating in these wonderful offices, and it’s not even October,” Sanders said as part of a panel with Ryan at an anti-poverty forum Monday night. “But the man that I’m sitting by, I’m telling you he’s real.”
Sanders said he has a problem with politics who have never been to inner city neighborhoods making decisions about fighting poverty. He said he supports Ryan’s effort to direct federal dollars to fight poverty into grassroots efforts.
“I would not waste my time,” the 47-year-old NFL Hall of Famer said. “I’ve got a wonderful life, and I have means. So I would not waste my time to come here had I thought and had I known that he’s trick or treating. It’s real. It’s authentic.”
