Dr. Dre and Ice Cube Comment on Suge Knight Murder Case

dr-dre-and-ice-cube-suge-knight*As the story of N.W.A. makes its way to the big screen, the group’s original members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre weigh in on the real-life murder case involving former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight.

Chatting with The Hollywood Reporter in a recent cover story, Cube mentioned that he was on set the day Knight allegedly hit Cle “Bone” Sloan and Terry Carter with his pick up truck when he was at a burger stand in South Los Angeles in January. Carter ultimately died from the incident and Knight was charged with murder and attempted murder in February. Carter’s wife ultimately filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Knight, Dre and Cube regarding the murder case.

At the time of the incident, a trailer was being shot for the highly anticipated N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton.”

“I was there,” Cube told the Reporter. “But I was just leaving, so I didn’t know what happened until I was halfway home.”

According to the Huffington Post, Cube heard about what happened with Knight over the phone after the incident occurred.

“It’s crazy that this happened during the f–king filming of the commercial,” the rapper-actor added while pointing out that “Straight Outta Compton” didn’t have any issues during production.

In Dre’s eyes, the incident can be attributed to the hazards of living in South Central, Los Angeles.

“Some people don’t care if you’re making a movie or not,” he told the Reporter. “It’s unfortunate because the movie is so good, so creative, so many talented people involved.”

Dre and Cube’s comments come after Knight took a legal blow in court as a judge refused to dismiss his case in July. The dismissal came after Sloan refused to identify Knight in court.

The rap mogul’s next court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 17. Meanwhile, “Straight Outta Compton” arrives in theaters Aug. 14.

Musically, HuffPost notes that the surviving members of N.W.A., who reunited on stage without Dre for their first live performance in 26 years in June, will hit the road for an upcoming reunion tour across Europe with Eminem.
