‘Empire’ Star Bryshere Grey: ‘You Can Learn From the Lyon Mistakes’

*Bryshere Yazshawn Grey believes the drama on “Empire” is not just for your amusement.

The 21-year-old actor who plays Hakeem, the youngest member of the Lyon family, feels viewers can learn valuable lessons from the various missteps taken by the characters. It’s the journeys, he says, that gives the show its ultimate appeal.

“It’s because the story line is so relatable, it’s like it’s a family drama and everybody has a family so you can learn from the Lyon mistakes, you can learn from what we stand for and my life has changed,” said Grey. “‘Empire’ has changed it, and I think it has changed a lot of people’s lives as well.”

The success of “Empire” not only saw his Hollywood game rise, but also his music hustle. Grey was busy grinding as “Yazz” on West Philly’s underground rap scene when “Empire” came a’callin’.
