*Orlando, FL – Entertainment pioneer, actor and entrepreneur, Renny Roker, has for decades blazed trails where few, if any have ventured.
After years of achievements and accolades, coupled with career highs and lows, he shares some of his most impactful and life-changing experiences in his new book “Positivity“– Your Key to Success,” available now on amazon.com and Kindle.
“Positivity” details Rokers’ personal and career adventures, infusing a mixture of humor, insight and wisdom to reveal how an optimistic outlook and attitude even through negative experiences can lead to favorable and life-changing results.
Roker represents a renowned family – one that includes the late actress Roxie Roker of the 1970’s sitcom, The Jefferson’s, Wally Roker of the do-op group, The Heartbeats, and renowned broadcaster and ‘Today’ show anchor, Al Roker. His nephew is famed rocker, Lenny Kravitz.
He made a name for himself promoting some of the biggest acts in music in the 1960’s – 1980’s, selling out concert arenas nationwide for entertainers like Nat King Cole, Isaac Hayes, Donna Summer, Kiss, the O’Jays, Village People and Parliament Funkadelic.
He starred in the classic 1974 film “Johnny Tough” and organized international bike racing tournaments through his company Jag BMX, where he produced one of the top selling BMX bikes in the world. He is a man of many firsts – among them, the first African American to produce a sports series and triathlon and that aired on major television networks.
To date, he has been in 53 motion pictures, 89 commercials, 422 TV episodes, 200 stage plays and he co-produced four motion pictures.
“I was always seeking to do something unique and different. There was a hunger inside of me to be the best and to do something that had never been done before,” Roker said. “As a black man, much of this was uncharted territory and there were barriers, but my attitude and ambition helped me to keep pushing and it was well worth it.”
During one excerpt from the book, Roker reflects on the time he was devastated when Hurricane Hugo destroyed his newly constructed $6 million dollar studio in the Virgin Islands. Adding insult to injury, the insurance company went bankrupt. He would end up losing his home and some of his other possessions. Still, that did not deter him. He would soon rebound.
“When you stand up to adversity, stare it in the face for recognition, then go and make something positive happen,” he said. “You will soon find out the recession of your life has become the best times of your life.”
In another account, he talks about a janitor named Jesse who cleaned bathrooms and offices at a large company. Jesse observed issues within the company and would leave notes on the president’s desk with solutions to improve results. Little did he know, the president was reading the notes and applying the suggestions, saving and making the company millions.
With encouragement from Roker, Jesse finally requested to meet the president to reveal that he was behind the letters. That very day, Jesse was offered a position as the top marketing executive with an annual salary of $350,000. Six years later he would become the president of that same company. Roker often references this story to prove that nothing is impossible.
“There are so many talented people out there who do not even realize their talent. Oftentimes, they give up unaware of the fact that they are only a step away from where they want to be,” he said. “Simply believing in yourself and speaking up can change your life in ways you can’t imagine.”
Overall, Roker wants Positivity to inspire belief and to influence the way people view themselves and their place in the world. He wants them to understand how their attitude plays a major part in dictating their circumstances.
“One of the most important things to take away from the book is…regardless of what is going on in your life, don’t let anyone see you beaten,” Roker said. “You never know where your next opportunity will come from. Stay positive and put your best foot forward at all times.”
