Josh Smith Says Making $6.9 Million will be A Hardship for Him (VIDEO)

josh smith*A 50 percent pay cut may spell hardship for a lot of people. Yet despite making $6.9 million, Josh Smith‘s hardship doesn’t quite register with sports fans.

“At the end of the day, you know, I do have a family,” said Smith said Tuesday (July 28) at a press conference after recently signing a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. “So it is going to be a little harder on me this year. But I’m going to push through it, you know.”

Needless to say, social media wasn’t buying it as Smith was on the receiving end of folks who felt that Smith is off his rocker with his comment. So much so that the forward earned this hashtag on Twitter: #PrayforJoshSmith.

Media sources point out that over the course of his pro-basketball career, Smith brought in nearly $94 million. Nevertheless, the $6.9 million salary is a far cry from the $14 million annual salary he would have received annually from the Detroit Pistons in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Smith’s decision to sign with the Clippers came amid other options he had available before going with the team.

Comparing Smith’s situation to that of Latrell Sprewell, who once argued he had “a family to feed” when turning down a three-year, $30 million offer from the Minnesota Timberwolves , The Sporting News mentioned that “it’s “unlikely that Smith will generate any sympathy for him despite him saying that it isn’t pleasant to take such a deep pay cut.”

Evidence of the lack of sympathy came with the creation of GoFundMe page to help Smith that proved to be a fake and was quickly shut down after it went online.
