*Add Kobe Bryant to the list of people who support Caitlyn Jenner.
The Los Angeles Lakers icon voiced his support of Jenner during a recent chat with TMZ. In Bryant’s eyes, taking comfort in being your true self is very important, whether you’re Jenner or someone else.
“I think people have to be comfortable being themselves,” Bryant told the site. “Doesn’t matter what walk of life you’re in, man, you gotta be comfortable being you. You got to be comfortable in your own skin.”
“You got to be comfortable being who you are, man — that’s the philosophy behind it all,” he reiterated later. “Be comfortable being you.”
Bryant’s comments were made before Jenner took the stage Wednesday night to receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this year’s ESPY Awards. The honor comes as the transgender community continues to face large amounts of discrimination and harassment in the U.S., according to The Huffington Post, which referenced the negative backlash Jenner received when she opened up about her decision to transition as well as ESPN’s decision to honor the sports legend with the Courage Award, a move that some felt Jenner was undeserving of.
