*Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson on Monday, July 20, at 1:00 PM will present the endorsement of 22 local and national civil rights leaders and organizations that have endorsed or a pending endorsement to drop Robert E. Lee‘s name from an Elementary School in Long Beach School. They include the Reverend Al Sharpton and National NAACP officials officials. He’ll also present dozens of new signatures on a petition campaign. Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable Political Affairs Director Pedro Baez will testify at the Board meeting at 5:00 PM on the demand to drop the Lee name from the school.

“The Board’s decision to hear public testimony is a good first step toward scraping Confederate names from one of its public schools,” says Hutchinson,” However it must now take the final step and rename the school. This action by Long Beach school officials will send the strong message that Long Beach is truly dedicated to insuring that the names on its schools reflect those who are dedicated to and uphold the highest ideals of freedom, justice and civil rights for all.”
