The play, written by Obie-winning playwright and “The Walking Dead” actress Danai Gurira, follows a group of women in Liberia who are caught by rebels fighting the government in 2003. It is described as a “feminist reading” of the civil war that is “both heartbreaking and profoundly life-affirming,” says Oskar Eustis, the Public Theater’s artistic director.

Eclipsed, to be directed by Liesl Tommy, will begin previews on Sept. 29 before its opening on Oct. 14. The limited engagement will run through Nov. 8.
