Oops. Macy’s Loses Customers After Dumping Donald Trump

*A few weeks ago, Macy’s pulled Donald Trump brand merchandise from its stores after the Republican presidential candidate’s recent controversial remarks on immigration created a public uproar.

Macy’s released a statement saying the company “stands for diversity” and that it had no tolerance for discrimination.

“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation,” Macy’s said. “In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.”

Since then, the department store has received complaints from approximately 30,000 customers for ending its relationship with Trump. TMZ reports that the company has been “inundated with complaints” from customers who believe the store is unfairly punishing Trump for his views on immigration.

Sources say thousands of customers have vowed never to shop at Macy’s again and many have threatened to cut up their Macy’s credit card to make a statement. They still have to pay off that credit or expect to be harassed by creditors, so we’re not sure how effective a statement that is.

Complaints have come in various ways, including phone, Facebook and email. A Macy’s spokesperson would only say, “Our Facebook page is often times used by our customers to express their feelings or points of view. Many times it does not correlate to any action.”

Trump’s racist views on immigrants caused Univision to cancel its telecast of the Miss USA pageant, which is partially owned by Trump, and NBCUniversal, which had jointly owned the Miss USA pageant and Miss Universe pageant with Trump, also severed its relationship with him.

Trump was also the host of “Celebrity Apprentice,” which airs on NBC, and will no longer be a part of the reality TV show.
