*“Survivor’s Remorse” star Teyonah Parris will see her character Missy undergo a huge transition in Season 2.
She’s letting go of the perm.
“We had talked about it for the first season, but the first season happened so quickly that it was just go, go, go,” Parris told EURweb Friday at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Beverly Hills.
The actress, who previously played Dawn Chambers on AMC’s “Mad Men,” approached “Survivor’s Remorse” showrunner Mike O’Malley about her character ditching the relaxer for Season 2.
“I was like, that would actually be a great story point because no one’s ever shown what it’s like as a woman of color to go through that journey,” she said. “I had gone through it.”
Below, Parris takes a moment to explain to the room (roughly 97 percent non-black) what happens after one decides to “go natural.” She also previews how Missy and the other characters deal with the transition:
Season 2 of “Survivor’s Remorse” premieres Aug. 22 on Starz.
