Tyrese Gibson Responds to Forbes for ‘Green Lantern’ Shade

Tyrese-As-Green-Lantern*”Do your research.”

That looks to be the moral of the story, according to Tyrese Gibson, who made it known what he thought of a recent Forbes magazine story that slammed him for being a choice among fans to play DC Comics superhero John Stewart (aka Green Lantern).

Talk of Gibson as Green Lantern was started by the 36-year-old entertainer himself as he hinted of his interest in the role with several pictures on his Instagram account of him as Green Lantern, TheJasmineBrand.com noted, adding that the move inspired fans to campaign on Gibson’s behalf for the opportunity to portray the Justice League member on the big screen.

In addition, the site referenced an interview Gibson did with “Entertainment Tonight” in which he revealed that he did meet with Warner Brothers about the role. While Gibson’s fans can picture him as Green Lantern, Forbes writer Benjamin Moore has a different opinion.

In an article that ran last week titled, “Tyrese Gibson Should Not Be Warner Bros. Green Lantern” Moore detailed his reasons why the “Furious 7” would not be a good fit for Green Lantern, saying “Tyrese Gibson is not the right guy for the job.

“I say that as a fan of Tyrese as an actor! I think he has a real charm and presence about him. He’s funny, he’s good-looking, he’s cool. I’ve enjoyed his performances in the Fast & Furious movies. I even enjoyed his work in things likeTransformers – which I did not like – and Four Brothers – which I thought was just okay, “ wrote Moore.

“Having said that, what Tyrese is good at – or at least what he’s leaned heavily on as an actor in the past – has been flashy, braggy, over-the-top humor. When I think of John Stewart, I think of confident and cool, but not arrogant, and about as serious and understated as a superhero can get. He’s a no-nonsense kind of guy. He doesn’t crack wise and he doesn’t show off. He’s basically the antithesis of Roman from Furious 7.”

Upon hearing about the article and checking it out for himself, Gibson took to Facebook to go in on the Moore and Forbes in an open letter. In his letter, Gibson blasted Moore for typecasting him and advised him to do his research before making an assessment on whether or not he is worthy of playing Green Lantern. Adding to that, the actor emphasized that the role of John Stewart is just that, a role. One which caused the fans to start the “Tyrese Green Lantern Campaign,” not him.

Before ending his letter, Gibson demanded an apology from Moore “writing this misinformed article….”

“Forbes is not a blog, or a random source of news – I have forever been a fan I’m actually apart of the Forbes monthly mags. Amazing that you would jump out there and write a story and make a complete fool of yourself like this…. I guess the concept of “Perception vs Reality” has just set in – in a real embarrassing way- playing a “role” is doing just that… Playing a role…. Do your research I was at home innocent it’s the FANS who started the “Tyrese Green Lantern Campaign” so again do your research bro…NOT just write a whole article based on movies that I’ve done that in your mind are “popular”… All dramatic roles… Baby Boy? Four Brothers,? Waist Deep..? Black Nativity.? Annapolis? I’ve actually done more dramatic roles and movies then anything comedic – or charming- I’m an entertainer and were supposed to be use to people writing random blogs and stories – that’s fine…. you ARE entitled to your opinion- but please KNOW your facts, and DO your research before your press that UPLOAD button… Especially on Forbes? I expected better champ!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend – I’ve provided your list of movies for you when you do your re-write… Since you decided to typecast me… I would appreciate an apology for writing this misinformed article…. Thanks” – Tyrese Gibson
