*Angela Bassett returns to Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” anthology series this fall in its fifth incarnation, set at a hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
“American Horror Story: Hotel,” Murphy says, will focus on addictions, with a handful of characters dealing with a drug habit.
Bassett said she is not one of them.
“I play Ramona Royale,” she told the Television Critics Association during its press tour Friday morning in Beverly Hills. “She’s sexy, but not in a drug addicty kind of way.”
“The character is also a fabulous actress of the day,” Bassett added. “I don’t live at the hotel but I visit very often.”
Bassett also suggested that Ramona is somehow linked romantically to a woman named Stephanie, who, in turn, is attached to Matt Bomer’s character Donovan, “a denizen of the hotel,” Bomer told critics.
“I have a very strong, real lasting relationship with Stephanie, so I’m sure I’ll be at odds with Donovan, who gets the girl,” Bassett said.
Among other returning “AHS” regulars, Kathy Bates plays Iris, who runs the hotel; and Sarah Paulsen is Sally, who lives at the hotel and hates Iris “for reasons that will be revealed quickly,” she said.
Lady Gaga joins the cast as hotel owner, Elizabeth. Murphy details her character below:
“American Horror Story: Hotel” premieres Oct. 7 on FX.
