*Fontana, Ca. – UC Davis student and Fontana, CA resident Kamaal T. Thomas (Class of 2016), also a Summer 2015 Princeton University Fellow, has spent the last year studying abroad at the University of Hong Kong in China.

His goal abroad was to experience and promote the American Dream.

The irony is, he believed traveling abroad would be a show of confidence, investment value and potential America has in its young black males through education and international relations.  Not continued death, incarceration and unemployment.

Southern California Cease Fire board member, “Taco” Ben Owens III, invited Kamaal to guest speak at the organization’s community meeting, August 19, 2015.

The public is invited to meet and welcome Kamaal home ahead of his Fall return to UC Davis where he studies International Relations.  Accompanying him will be his father, Dr. D.C. Nosakhere Thomas, and his mentor from Brother II Brother, Terry Boykins, CEO of Street Positive.

His discussion will include travels to China and Princeton University, as well as, mentoring, black male achievement, reducing black targeted violence and maltreatment, domestic issues, international trade, technology and key opportunities for boys of color outside of sports and entertainment.

The event will be held on August 19, 2015 (Hot Wings Wednesday) at 6:30p.  Location is Bethel AME Church. 7900 S. Western Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90047.

kamaal t“Southern California Cease Fire” is pleased and proud to invite Kamaal, his father and his mentor to share their positive experiences and relationships in creating success.  We are confident that this effort will send a strong message regarding the importance, power and need for all boys of color to be mentored so they can achieve emotionally, academically, economically, socially and spiritually.  As well as, parental should that be their experience in life,” said Owens
