*Rebel Wilson appeared at Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards dressed in a cop uniform and did a bit that many feel made light of police brutality. Needless to say, it rubbed Black Twitter, Black Lives Matter folks and pretty much all activists against police brutality the wrong way.
Wilson began, “A lot of people have problem with the police, but I really hate police strippers.”
At this point, she tore off her uniform to reveal a t-shirt that read, “F**k Tha Stripper Police.”
She continued: “You guys know what I’m talking about. They come to your house, you think you’re getting arrested, and you just get a lap dance that is usually uninspired. I hired police stripper for my grandma’s 80th, and he wouldn’t even feel her up…. I hate this injustice, hence the shirt.”
Activist DeRay McKesson of Black Lives Matter and others on Twitter were not amused:
.@RebelWilson/@MTV, police violence isn’t a joke, as the deaths of #TamirRice, #RekiaBoyd, #FreddieGray, #MikeBrown, & #MyaHall remind us.

@electrolemon @jordan_budd Rebel Wilson’s “stripper police” was a mockery of the past year and the lives of those killed by the police.

When’s the last time you heard a Holocaust, Sandy Hook, or Columbine joke at an awards show? Exactly. https://t.co/mBnjbra3QP — deray mckesson (@deray) August 31, 2015

Below, some of Black Twitter’s finest:
I bet you @MTV wouldn’t make a joke about white boys who shoot up movie theater or schools to introduce the best Country video.
