*Drake on Monday became the first artist to release an album in 2015 to go platinum in the United States, ending a serious drought in the music industry.
The Canadian rapper’s “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,” which he dropped digitally without warning in February, has sold 1.007 million copies as of the week ending Friday, according to Nielsen Music.
Taylor Swift’s “1989” is the only other album to sell more than one million copies in the U.S. this year, but it was released in 2014.
Drake — a close collaborator of Apple — released “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” on iTunes two months before physical copies hit stores.
