*Mary Bridget Davies evokes the electric energy of the late Janis Joplin in the Pasadena Playhouse’s current production of “A Night With Janis Joplin” by Randy Johnson, who created, wrote and directed the production.
In recanting Joplin’s life and musical journey, Johnson found it fitting to note the ladies of soul who  also had an indelible impact on the iconic rock star.
Bringing those powerful performances to the stage are Sharon Catherine Brown who belts out the blues and Sylvia McCalla, who doubles as Odetta Holmes and one of the Joplinaires.
Yvette Cason tears down the house as Aretha Franklin singing a duet with Joplin, and Jenell Lynn Randall gives her own savory dose of Etta James in “A Night With Janis Joplin.”
Kacee Clanton also stars as Janis Joplin in selected performances of the Tony Award nominated “A Night With Janis Joplin. ”
The production is showing now through August 23, 2015.
