*Well, we might be getting somewhere with regard to the mysterious deaths of African American women while in the custody of police. Albeit at a snails pace.

A state appointed prosecutor from New York has been hired to investigate any deaths that occur while the person is in police custody; starting with the death of Raynette Turner (pictured), the 43-year-old mother of eight who was found dead in a jail cell in Mount Vernon, New York last week.

As EURThisNthat previously reported, after Turner was taken into custody for allegedly shoplifting in a neighborhood grocery store on Saturday, July 25, she made it known to police that she suffered from numerous health problems, including issues following weight loss surgery and hypertension. She was taken to a local hospital, but discharged to authorities the following day. On Monday morning, she was found unresponsive in her jail cell and she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
