The idea of two of the best fighters around squaring off is one that proves very interesting. So much so that Rousey has lightly weighed in on the topic herself when speculating who would win, if that match were ever a reality.
Most recently, the UFC Women’s Bantamweight champ alluded to Mayweather’s history of domestic violence against women when she brought his name up in a red carpet interview at this year’s ESPY awards. The annual event was a memorable one for Rousey as she beat the undefeated boxer for the ESPY’s Best Fighter award.
“I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once,” Rousey said as she took a shot at Mayweather, who claimed to not know who she is. “I’d like to see him pretend to not know who I am now.”
According to ESPN, Mayweather came up again as a fan asked if Rousey could be the man who many consider to arguably be the greatest boxer of all time. Although she yielded when specifically putting the match in a boxing capacity, Rousey admitted that she would be the one victorious if the rules of that sport were thrown out.
“In a no-rules fight, I believe I can beat anyone on this planet,” Rousey told fans during a Reddit AMA on Monday (Aug. 10). “Do I think I would (legitimately) beat Mayweather in a ruleless fight? Floyd is one of the best boxers of all time.” Rousey told a fan who asked if she could beat Mayweather if there were no rules.
“He would definitely beat me in a boxing match. I unfortunately don’t get into ‘matches’,” she continued. “I fight for a living. In a no rules fight, I believe I can beat anyone on this planet. Boxing is a sweet science with strict rules that I respect very much and aspire every day to improve at. But you said ruleless fight, and that’s my honest answer.”
