*Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis biopic has secured a distributor ahead of its world premiere this fall at the New York Film Festival.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired worldwide rights to “Miles Ahead, “starring Cheadle in his directorial debut. SPC did not announce a release date, but the studio will likely put it in theaters in time for awards season.

The movie centers on the trumpet icon’s silent period, as he teamed with a Rolling Stone writer (Ewan McGregor) to steal back his music, and relives the years he had with his great love Frances Taylor, played by Emayatzy Corinealdi.

The film is premiering October 11 as the closing-night selection at the New York Film Festival.

Cheadle also co-wrote and co-executive produced the film, which was made with the participation of The Miles Davis Estate.
