The Weeknd Close to Reaching Plea Deal in Cop Hitting Case

the-weeknd*Things appear to be coming to an end for The Weeknd as the singer is reportedly close to reaching a plea deal in a criminal case that involves accusations of him punching a Las Vegas police officer.

TheJasmineBrand.com cites court documents that reveal negotiations are currently underway to reach a plea deal in an effort for The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) to avoid jail time. The judge in the case has signed off on the continuance of a court hearing in order to give so the entertainer and the prosecution time to continue ironing out details of a purposed deal.

News of a plea deal is the latest development in the case, which stems from a fight Tesfaye was involved in back in January that occurred outside a hotel in Las Vegas around 4 a.m. Despite the presence of law enforcement, the fight continued.

Although efforts were made to break up the fight, Tesfaye was ultimately pulled into an elevator during the ruckus by an officer. It then that the “Can’t Feel My Face” vocalist punched the officer in the head and was arrested.

The JasmineBrand notes that Tesfaye was “officially charged in court on February 2nd for battery on a protected person (aka a police officer).”

Up next in the case is a hearing set for Aug. 27. At that time, Tesfaye and the prosecution will present a plea deal to the judge.
