*Tracy Morgan has made few public appearances since his slow recovery from a June 2014 car wreck when a Wal-Mart tractor-trailer struck the limousine van he was in, killing his friend James McNair. He and his family were spotted on a delightful outing at Magic Kingdom in July, and photogs captured him twice last week in New York, including front row with his daughter at the Yankees game Tuesday night.

As Deadline reports, Morgan’s public appearances raise hope that he may soon be ready to takeover the lead of his FXX comedy series. The project, picked up straight-to-series in April 2014, was put on hold following the car crash.

“We know he wants to do it,” FX Networks CEO John Landgraf told Deadline at TCA today, reiterating the company’s commitment to the series and its willingness to wait as long as it takes for Morgan to fully recover.  “We continue to work on developing the script,” said FX president of original programming Eric Schrier.

When asked if he was going to get back to comedy soon, Morgan said “I never left” to a gathered crowd outside his Lamborghini in NYC Thursday night.

In related news, NBC News reports that Federal investigators will meet this week to determine the probable cause of the accident that injured the actor-comedian and killed his friend. Morgan suffered head trauma, a broken leg and broken ribs. Three other passengers suffered serious injuries and two had minor injuries, according to the NTSB.

A preliminary NTSB report released two weeks after the accident found Wal-Mart truck driver Kevin Roper negligent. He was charged with death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. The criminal complaint alleged Roper operated the truck “without having slept for a period in excess of 24 hours resulting in a motor vehicle accident.”
