*BET Networks has inked a deal with digital network Black&Sexy TV to air three web series on the cable channel, including popular scripted drama “RoomieLoverFriends,” Variety reports.
Black&Sexy TV was created by Dennis Dortch and Numa Perrier and debuted in 2011 with a slate of programming geared toward a young, black audience. The company operates a $7-per-month subscription VOD service for access to all its original programming via VHX and also distributes episodes on YouTube.
“We noticed Black&Sexy TV has a dedicated fanbase, and their fans’ obsession for this content mirrors the obsession our audience has for BET and our content,” said Pete Danielsen, BET’s exec VP of program planning, scheduling and acquisitions.
Jet magazine reports that BET will begin with “RoomieLoverFriends,” a show about “two roommates who complicate their once-platonic relationship when they end up in bed together.” The series (starring Andra Fuller and Shayla Hale) premiered online in 2012, and will debut on BET Wednesday, September 16 at 11 p.m. est. The weekly series will unfold over 4 hour-long episodes.
The network will also air “Sexless,” which debuted in early 2015 and follows a group of female friends who seek meaningful relationships without having sex.
Lastly, BET will air episodes of the 2013 series “Hello Cupid,” which chronicles a dark-skinned woman who changes her online dating profile picture to that of her light-skinned best friend to see how suitors respond.
Air dates for the latter two shows have yet to be announced.
This is not the first Internet-to-television migration for Black&Sexy TV. Back in January 2014, HBO signed a deal with the digital network to turn its popular web series “The Couple” into a linear TV show, executive produced by Spike Lee. The comedy series stars comedians Perrier and Desmond Faison and has pulled in 1.5 million views across all its episodes and related video platforms.
