Chris Brown Signs Vegas Residency, Australia Set to Deny Visa

Chris Brown

*Chris Brown is the latest high-profile performer to sign up for an extended Las Vegas tour.

Brown inked a residency deal at Drai’s, reportedly for a trial run of six shows at $50,000 per concert. He will rotate performances with Trey Songz, and possibly several other artists, as part of the deal, according to TMZ.

As MSN reports, Brown’s deal is nowhere near the Lucrative deals Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, and Jennifer Lopez signed. The crooner has yet to confirm on social media the Drai’s deal but he did tweet on Friday that he’s celebrating his mom’s birthday at the club on Oct. 3.

Reports of the ‘Vegas deal comes mere days after news broke that Australian officials were looking to bar Brown from performing there in December due to his assault on Rihanna in 2009, a case in which he pleaded guilty.

“People need to understand if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you, ‘You cannot come in because you are not of the character we expect in Australia,'” said Australian Minister for Women Michaela Cash, via ABC News.

On Sunday, Brown received a formal warning from Australian authorities that they are considering refusing his application for a visa. As the NY Daily News reports, he now has 28 days to make a case as to why they should approve his application, though, as reported, he is unlikely to receive one. He has toured Australia twice since the Rihanna incident, but the government is under pressure to refuse him this time.

BBC reports Australia’s immigration department has issued a “notice of intention to consider refusal,” Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said.

This latest career set-back is familiar territory for Brown, as his criminal activity has gotten in the way of his travels numerous times. In 2010, the United Kingdom banned him from performing there, and in February, he was barred from entering Canada. New Zealand also ruled that Brown is unsuitable for entry into the country.
