Dr. Dre’s Son Confirms No ‘Compton’ Sequel, Set To Play Dad in ‘Dogg Pound’

*Dr. Dre’s son, Curtis Young, has confirmed to XXL magazine that there will be no sequel to “Straight Outta Compton,” which has banked close to $150 million at the box office – a figure that usually inspires studio heads to greenlight a pitch for an additional installment.

However, the surprise success of “SOC” has, so far, only inspired other hip-hop biopic ideas, such as a film about late rapper Gang Starr, a Public Enemy biopic and the long-in-development Tupac Shakur project, IndieWire reports.

Young may not have landed the role as his father in “Straight Outta Compton,” but he recently revealed to XXL that he will play Dre in the upcoming Dogg Pound For Life” biopic.

“This is the Dogg Pound For Life movie. I’m cast to play my father. That is official,” Curtis said. “Right now they’re looking for funding. There are talks with 50 Cent and some other people. The script is pretty much done. I can’t really speak on the characters but I just got photos of who’s going to be playing who. I’m just really excited to be a part of it.”

The 33-year-old aspiring rapper found out that he was Dre’s son when he was twelve. After hiring lawyers and having a paternity test prove Dre is his father, the two men have maintained a close relationship since they met when Curtis was twenty.

“I started trying to meet him and hiring lawyers, whatever I could do,” Curtis says to XXL. “It was rough. It was really hard to finally get the DNA test and meet him.”

“You’re going through all this and you’re trying to find yourself, that’s a whole different period I went through. I was like, ‘I just want to be just like him,” Young said. “I’m going to wear khakis and I’m going to be a gangster.’ It just really wasn’t me. I grew up in Compton, not that I’m no punk or anything, but I never had that in me. Everybody knew me and I was cool. I was the ladies man. Something that I had to grow into was just being Curtis Young. Curtis Young is a grown and sexy vibe, just talking about the life stories that I’ve been through. I had it rough. It’s not your average story.”

“Dogg Pound for Life” will document Death Row Records, focusing on the careers of Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Warren G, Kurupt, currently incarcerated label head, Suge Knight and Tupac.
