GOP Candidates Want Planned Parenthood Board Member for $10 Bill

*While a number of presidential candidates in Wednesday’s debate raged against GOP target Planned Parenthood, three of them likely had no idea they had chosen a former board member of the group as a woman they’d like to see on the $10 bill.

Donald Trump, Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) said they would be open to civil rights activist Rosa Parks replacing Alexander Hamilton on the 10 spot. In addition to sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, the former seamstress sat on the national board of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Cruz, ironically, is spearheading the Republican assault on Planned Parenthood, trying to rally his Senate colleagues to threaten a government shutdown unless federal funding for the family planning provider ends. But the Texas conservative praised Parks in the debate Wednesday night, calling her “a principled pioneer that helped change this country, helped remedy racial injustice.” He said putting her on the $10 bill is “an honor that would be entirely appropriate,” though he’d prefer to have her picture on the $20 in lieu of Andrew Jackson’s.

Rubio called her “an everyday American that changed the course of history” and Trump said Parks would be the best choice for the currency — after, his daughter Ivanka. “Other than that, we’ll go with Rosa Parks,” the billionaire decided. “I like that.”
