NFL’s Joel Gamble’s Foundation Chooses Actor Anthony Michael Hobbs As Speaker in Mentoring Program

Anthony Michael Hobbs’ to speak at Berkshire Elementary School in Baltimore for the Joel Gamble Foundation September 18, 2015

*On Friday, September 18, 2015 10 year-old Baltimore actor Anthony Michael Hobbs (Emmy nominated PBS’ “The Abolitionists”) will be a guest speaker at Berkshire Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland as a mentor in former NFL player Joel Gamble’s (Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans) Joel Gamble Foundation: Career Scholars Program. The program consist of students who could benefit from the mentorship of successful career minded men and woman.

As part of the program, the students create a list of questions to ask each mentor and are then asked to reflect on what they have learned through writing assignments and art. In addition to setting a foundation for career mindedness, the objective of the program is to also raise the students’ overall grades and to change poor work habits and classroom behavior.

The Joel Gamble Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit which seeks to increase the number of college ready student athletes. The foundation has several components in order for student athletics to become successful: college acceptance/success, academic success, and athletic success.

In addition to acting Anthony is an avid sports player having played baseball, basketball, and soccer since Pre-K. He has many awards for his athletic abilities such as the 2011 Relentless Player of the Game (soccer) and the 2013-2014 JR Boys Champions (basketball). He is also a film producer/director. His first short film, One Nation, has screened at five film festivals: The Aurora Picture Show Extremely Young Film Festival at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston; the Alhambra Theatre Film Festival in Indiana where he won their Spirit Award; the West Chester Film Festival in West Chester, Pennsylvania; the Montclair Film Festival in New Jersey where it won Grand Prize, and the San Diego Kids International Film Festival.

Anthony Michael Hobbs’ acting credits include performances in films, such as 2013 Emmy Award nominated PBS special “The American Experience: The Abolitionist” where he played a young Frederick Douglas; starring in DreamWorks documentary “How to Train Your Dragon: Dragons and Dinosaurs” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bekKOmfsWfc); United Way ‘s PSA (https://vimeo.com/54017197);  Norwegian Cruise-Line’s commercial; several PBS Sprout Network mini-segments; the national classroom program called KinderRhyme – which appears in over 2600 school programs, and in a Comcast’s Xfinity segment.
