*Rapper Dex Osama, who had been endorsed by Meek Mill and DeJ Loaf, was shot and killed early Monday morning at a gentleman’s club in his hometown of Detroit.

The owner of Crazy Horse gentleman’s club told Detroit’s WDIV that a fight broke out inside at around 2 a.m. between two groups of men, some of whom were soon forced outside. That’s where shots were fired, killing Osama and injuring two others, according to Detroit Free Press.

Meek Mill remembered Osama on Instagram Monday, writing, “Had a lot of talks with you about getting out them streets and chasing ya dreams! I really believed in you and seen you putting on for Detroit!”

Osama had also received support from fellow Detroit rapper DeJ Loaf, who brought him onstage during the Summer Jamz 18 festival in June. As Noisey reports, they also performed together on Oba Rowland’s “Lifestyle Part II” remix. Loaf tweeted to honor her lost friend.

Osama’s popularity grew with his raw raps about Detroit street life. On of his most popular tracks, “Death on Me,” Osama rapped about his mother’s view on his way of living: “My mama said I got death on me / The reason why I got this vest on me / These niggas want me then come get me / I ain’t hiding nigga I’m in the city.”
